5          Outgoing Chairman's Report

Richard thanked the meeting for their kind wishes.

He reported another very successful Dorchester Beerex an equally successful Weymouth Oktoberfest, now firmly on the festival calendar, and continued support for the Bridport festival.

The policy of holding meetings in a different venue each month was not as successful as it seems to be the same people each time. He appealed for a greater attendance from membership at these meetings. Overall the branch was in a healthy state but, like all branches, we need more active members

Richard congratulated Dave on the very professional branch web site which has resulted in greater sales of clothing and local guides.

In closing he said he would make every effort to attend meetings when he could and he was sure he was leaving the branch chair in good hands.

6          Treasurer's Report

The Treasurer circulated his report for examination by the membership. Branch income was healthy – Oktoberfest & Beerex had generated some £1800. Branch has £7800 in hand.

Acceptance of Accounts proposed: Phil Livesey, seconded: Frank Younghusband – Accounts accepted without objection.

7          Secretary / Regional Report

Secretary post was something that Tony would like to have a deputy for so that the various activities throughout the year could be explained to another person, thus allowing more continuity.

Tony reminded the meeting that although judging for branch pub of the year took place in December/January members can nominate a pub at any time.

At present we only have two brewery liaison officers (BLOs), Tony for Dorset Brewing Co and Rich for Palmers. We need someone to liaise with Goldfinch (Allan Swannell took this position on)

He also reminded members that they could attend any of the quarterly regional meetings where OUR local ideas are aired and fed up to CAMRA Executive. Come along and see how it works. Next meeting will be at Hall & Woodhouse brewery in November.

John Buckley had taken over the RD role, and had done so on the clear understanding that Assistant RDs would be established so that the work could be shared.

John sent a message to the meeting (attached) and thanked all members for their input and help. He wanted to ensure there was good flow of information both ways within the region – particularly from the grassroots upwards. Members were reminded of the presentation of Wessex Regional Club of the Year award to the Colliton Club which would take place at 7.30 on 27/9/07.

Tony reminded the meeting that West Dorset branch also had a sub-branch in the north of the County called Heart of Wessex . Apart from the initial funding of £200 in 1997 the sub-branch has been self-sufficient. Chairman is Paul Smith who incidentally has just started his own micro-micro brewery called Small Paul's – meet him and you'll know why. We hope to support Paul by having a cask of his beer at Beerex.

8          Social Activities

The Social Secretary is planning brewery trips to Blackdown Wessex Brewery on either 3rd or 17thNovember. Further possibilities being considered were Otter brewery and/or Blindman's brewery at Shepton Mallett. A trip to Exeter Winter Ale festival was planned for January and there would be another trip to Cornwall Breweries 7th to 9th of March. Phone Rich by 1/1/08 to get your place and give your deposit. The Maltings trip next year will be at the end of April.

9          Any Other Business

There being no other business, the Chairman expressed thanks to everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 9.00.
