West Dorset CAMRA Pub Garden of the Year 2021

As the autumn nights draw in there’s still time to visit a pub garden be it for a lunchtime ploughman’s or to catch the early evening sunset, and what better garden to visit than the current 2021 West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) pub garden of the year the Pymore Inn, Pymore near Bridport.

The pub was sold and closed and then totally refurbished with detail given to the garden which can cater for drinkers in all weather elements.

A large fir tree dominates the large grassed open area that was once predominantly a car park with centre features including a large raised fire pit that is frequently lit and to cater for outside functions a large timber clad outside bar which apart from dispensing cask ales also has a pizza oven. The garden is enclosed by the original grade 2 listed red brick boundary wall with plenty of seating available in shaded areas if preferred on the half gravel half lawned areas. The pub itself is ivy clad and compliments the pretty garden which has shrub bordered areas with potential for further planting giving way to countryside views.

The pub is owned by the Electric Pub Company and on hearing of the award company owner Steve Killingbeck said “The Electric Pub Company has worked hard over the past couple of years by investing heavily in the Pymore Inn and transforming the garden into a wonderful space welcoming drinkers, food goers and families alike.

It has taken hard work and dedication but we have achieved what we set out to do – to make it the best pub garden in Bridport and surrounding areas.”
He went on to say “We are surprised and delighted to receive this award from CAMRA in recognition of our fabulous garden that complements our ever- changing range of local and regional cask ales.”

West Dorset CAMRA spokesperson Rich Gabe said” The Pymore inn garden is a wonderful example of dedication and investment for the future and has certainly boosted the credibility of this fantastic pub”

A planned presentation to the pub will be taking place by West Dorset CAMRA in the near future.
