Dorchester Beerex 2023 Press Release

West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary club are delighted to announce that the 34th Dorchester Beerex will be held in Dorchester Corn Exchange on Friday and Saturday, February 3rd & 4th respectively.

The festival along with promoting some of the U.K’s best brewers and cider producers also has a charity angle with this year’s principal cause being the Robert White Centre at Dorset County Hospital (DCH). The Robert White Centre provides specialist radiotherapy care and outpatient support for cancer patients treated at DCH, benefiting over 5000 patients a year. Funds raised from the beer festival will be split 50/50 between the Dorset County Hospital Charity’s Radiotherapy and Cancer Services Funds.

This year the Beerex committee are proud to announce a brand new festival main sponsor the local awarding winning Cerne Abbas Brewery which is run as a partnership by Victor Irvine and Jodie Moore. Sadly Vic was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and has been looked after exceptionally well by the centre, Vic says “I can’t thank everybody at The Robert White Centre enough for keeping me above ground!” In his usual imitable style he goes on to say “Every single member of staff at DCH and Poole Hospital have treated me so well, I can’t express how it feels to literally have your life in someone else’s hands. My oncologist and the lung ladies (as i call them) have been at my side throughout this journey, Some days are better than others and they will always pick me up when I’m in bits and give me the strength I need at this time” He goes on to say “To be in a position to be able to give a bit back feels good, and we all know the actual health benefits of having a positive mind and sunny outlook.”

Co-brewery owner Jodie went on to say “We will be about for the festival all weekend and please feel free to come and chat all things beer with us. All that remains to say is, a massive thank you to everybody who volunteers to run the festival, all the other breweries, sponsors and of course it goes without saying but I will, cheers to all the good folk who spend their money and who will come and drink the legendary selection of delicious beers on offer and support the 2023 Beerex.”

This year entertainment will be from local acoustic act Jack Daniels making a welcome return Friday evening with his melodic tunes and wit while Saturday evening see’s the Beerex debut of “That Brit Pop Band” take to the stage following their highly successful gigs at the Cerne Abbas brewery supporting Chesney Hawkes and Weymouth Octoberfest. The band plays a superb array of 90’s tunes from the likes of Oasis, Pulp, Cast and Supergrass. Festival organisers are urging customers to get their tickets early as a sell out crowd is expected.

Every year the festival holds a raffle over the four sessions with prizes donated by local businesses and breweries. This year the raffle will once again be raising funds for the Dorchester Youth and Community Centre (DYCC) in King’s Rd; Dorchester which is a valuable asset for young people by providing a safe place to meet and engage in assisted activities.

The festival will have a selection of 80 cask conditioned ales complimented by a large range of ciders; tickets are available from the following outlets: Dorchester; Convivial Rabbit & Tom Browns pubs and Poundbury; The Brace of Butchers. Weymouth; Doghouse Micro pub and Belvedere Inn. Or you can buy online
