Dorchester Beerex Presentations 2024

This year’s annual Dorchester Beerex held in Dorchester Corn Exchange exceeded all expectations and generated a massive £27,500.00 which will be divided up and go to good local causes. The event is organised by members of West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary Club and is now in its 35th year.

The event was sponsored by the local Cerne Abbas Brewery and the main beneficiary was Amelia’s Rainbow, a local charity that aims to make terminally ill children’s dreams come true.

A cheque was presented to Amelia’s Rainbow representative Farah Batchelor at the Dorchester Kings rd Youth & Community Centre. On receiving a cheque for 11K Farah said “I would like to sincerely thank West Dorset CAMRA and Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary for this massive donation. We opened Amelia’s Haven our holiday home this week; it will give around 30 local families a free holiday in their time of need”

Dorchester Beerex Committee Chairman Adrian Carey said “It’s so nice to be in a position to present Farah from Amelia’s Rainbow this much money; we know the money will make a huge difference to the children and Amelia’s Haven”

At the same time another cheque was presented to the Dorchester Youth and Community Centre with funds raised from the raffle for £2842.00. This money will be used to keep the centre afloat and support youth nights.

Earlier on in the year on a Sunday afternoon a presentation was made to Alistair and Tina Burrell of Copper St Brewery on coming first in the “Beer of the Festival” competition, in which customers vote for their top three beers. Festival organisers and volunteers were invited to a special licensed event to toast the success of Dorchester Imperial Stout, a warming rich barley wine strength stout which was specially brewed for the festival. On receiving the award Copper St owner and brewer said” I feel really honoured to have won this award, we really appreciate the local support we have been given , to be involved in Beerex alone is a great thing to be associated with but this win caps it all”

Dorchester Beerex Chairman Adrian Carey took the opportunity to thank all the volunteers on the day and said of Dorchester Imperial Stout” It’s great that a local small brewery has won this award, i look forward to sampling it again next time it is brewed”
