Parliament votes for Pubco reform

A vote to end the “beer tie” was passed last night – apparently the only defeat for a government bill since 2010. The intent of the measure is to allow pubs belonging to big companies the option to have a fair market rent and to buy their products on the open market – like most other businesses. Many landlords have complained that they were obliged to pay rents well above the market rates and in addition to that had to pay hefty “wholesale” prices for their stock, which they could only get from the owning company’s nominated suppliers.

More details including some example prices in this BBC article.
