Congratulations go to Darren Moore the landlord of the Woodman pub in Bridport for taking the crown of the West Dorset Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch “Pub of the year” title. Darren and his staff at the Woodman are no strangers to awards having come top in the local branch “Cider Pub of the Year competition” and then winning the Wessex Regional cider pub award. The pub is secretly judged by CAMRA volunteers and beat off stiff competition from other West Dorset pubs.
Initially on hearing of his award all a shocked Darren could say was “thank you, thank you, thank you”! After it had sunk in he went on to say” We are totally shocked, but of course very happy. We would like to thank all the customers, suppliers, musicians, Dj’s and the staff that make the pub what it is.” He went on to thank the tremendous support West Dorset CAMRA has given the pub.
The Woodman is a classic example of a local’s friendly boozer which has an ever changing choice of 4 interesting cask ales in tip top condition complemented by a large range of traditional ciders. The bar staff are always polite and knowledgeable of the products they sale and will give tasters on request.
The bar area consist of flagstone flooring with wooden settles flanking the walls and windows with a real fire as a focal point. To the rear of the pub there is a skittle alley and small garden.
The award was presented by West Dorset CAMRA Chairman Bruce Mead at the recent Dorchester Beerex. Bruce said “Presenting CAMRA awards to Darren and his team at The Woodman has become a bit of a habit over the last 12 months. This award comes on top of their West Dorset and Wessex Regional Cider Pub of the Year awards, and is thoroughly deserved. We wish them every success in the next round of the competition”. The Woodman now goes forward to represent West Dorset in the Regional Final.
